Audio-Technica
Audio-Technica AT895 ($2,595.00)
The AT895 Adaptive Array incorporates a DSP-controlled five-element mic
array that provides adaptive directional audio acquisition perfect for handheld
interview use or long-range sound pickup. Utilizes AT's proprietary
DeltaBeam technology. The system manipulates and filters the output of the
array by acoustical, analog and digital means. This process enhances the
pickup of a sound source from a desired direction relative to unwanted background
noise of interference, providing cancellation of up to 80dB. Background
interference, mechanical noise, wind noise, proximity effect are all minimized
automatically. Two components are at the heart of every AT895
System: the AT895 Mic and the AT895CP control pack. The mic is
analog, housing one Audio-Technica MicroLine element, four A-T cardioid elements
mounted in a co-planar diamond configuration, and five mic preamps. The
five amplified analog signals from the mic elements are sent individually down a
special detachable cable to the AT895CP Control Pack. the control Pack
provides all the power, Digital Signal Processing, and control for the
AT895. Output from the Control Pack is analog at mic-level (-23dBV).
Contains click-on battery housing for totally self-contained operation.
Also operates on external 12-14VDC from an Anton/Bauer or similar-type battery
source, or from an AC adapter - via an industry-standard 4-pin XLR-type
connection.

Soundfield MKV Mic and Model 451 5.1
Decoder ($9,150.00)
A non-traditional mic that provides depth, width, and height information, and
can be configured for anything from stereo to 5.1 output. Employs
four-element array in a tetrahedral pattern that can be electronically
controlled from the supplied preamp/controller. A 55-foot multi-core cable
is used to connect the mic to the controller.
The front panel of the multi-function processor is an input
section that consists of a master Gain control that provides up to 30dB of gain
in 10dB steps, and a Fine Gain control, which is detented at 0. Solo
switches for individual capsules as well as switches that compensate for
microphone orientation. Controller includes a stereo output section that
consists of a variable pattern control -- from omni to figure-eight, an angle
control, which electronically points the capsules either in the same direction
(o degree) or 180 degrees opposing, and a headphone jack with gain
control. 40Hz HPFD and M/S decoding switches. A set of four LED bar
graphs that can be switched to display either the B Format output or the stereo
output levels. Azimuth provides for complete electronic rotation of the
microphone, Elevation allows for plus/minus 45 degrees of continuous variation
of the vertical alignment, while Dominance, is a form of "zoom"
control that gives the effect of the mic either moving closer or farther away
from the sound source. There's also an in/out control for the Soundfield
controls as well as a B Format input switch for using the controller with
pre-0recorded B Format materal.
The Rear panel consists of a multi-pin mic input for the MDV,
foru XLRs for B Format in, and SLRs for stereo output. Also a standard IEC
detachable AC pler cable input as well as a power on/off switch.
